Coffee anyone?
While working on Gordoco I came across the first ever Coffee Skateboards AD (featuring Brian Ball as a coloring contest). Coffee was my first skateboard sponsor. It was based out of the little town of Waldorf Maryland where I moved to when I was 12 and lived until I was 18. Coffee Skateboards is one of those things that I look back on and always makes me smile (sometimes even laugh). Those were great days in skateboarding for me. No job, no bullshit, no daily grind… I just skated ever day with some of the best dudes ever. Some of which I’m still in touch with today. The owner of the company Glen did a lot for me and I will always remember that.

This was my Coffee AD. It ran in Slap Magazine (half page). I still remember how hyped I was when it came out. well… other then the fact that one of my really good friends Keyhan designed the ad and had spelled my name wrong. I gave the poor guy a lot of shit for it. The old “and I thought we were friends!” routine. You would have thought we were girl friend and boyfriend and he had called me his ex’s name or something.
Poor bastard.

January 27, 2010She invites me up at twelve o’ clock at night for coffee and I don’t go up. No thank you, I don’t want coffee, it keeps me up. “Too late for me to drink coffee.” I said this to her. People this stupid shouldn’t be allowed to live.

January 28, 2010Glen used to give me batches of product to take up to Frostburg and sell to the locals, while keeping a board and set of wheels for myself. With no skateshop around, and the local gun store selling decks for 70 bucks, the Coffee supplies were a welcome change for skaters from Western Maryland.
You should work on some Coffee Reissues. HAHAHAHA

January 28, 2010i recall a session there involving a prom dress, and a shoeless blunt fakie up on a vert quarter.

January 29, 2010I thought that was at a contest? The blunt fakie with the dress on and no shoes. humm… Brian? was that at the spunk contest?
El Vortex
January 29, 2010Yes, it was Spunk. Yes, the blunt fakie was in a dress and no shoes. Yes, Jeff Welsh took the photo. Yes, he moved out owing most of his roommates money, but I, in turn, moved out and left a recliner and a bag of trash in the closet of the room he previously inhabited. Since the security deposit was in his name, I can only hope that justice was served.
Speaking of justice (or karma), that 1/4 left me with a bone chip in my knee for almost 10 years.

February 1, 2010Jeff did kinda suck. I havent thought about that dude in forever. Not justice, but speaking of karma, I think Karma started his own skateboard company called “Karma”. He came up in conversation today and that was said. Pretty gnarly. The Cube will be fucked without him. I’m claimin half the team is gonna leave if he does start his own company. And if he did start his own company I’m backing it. It’s got nothing to do with skateboarding at all but dude pocket diels me at least once a week.
Not this though: Karma Skateboards.
These dudes are from the UK.

February 1, 2010This reminds me of going to a consolidated demo to check out ole Gordo, out at PitCrew. When Karma and I met for the first time, we both did a double take as though we were looking in the mirror at ourselves for the first time. I knew he and I looked alot alike in the face, but didn’t realize how close the resemblence really was. Rad dude. Twinwise.
