…Born Free….

bornfreeride-01
Born Free is a motorcycle show in Long Beach, CA hosted by the good fellas over at Born Loser. My roommate Mike and I decided to roll down the coast and look as some bad ass bikes. Four of us met up and left the Bay area and headed south. Mike took his 1973 shovelhead (we call “The Black & Orange”)…

bornfreeride-02
Ben was on his Chopper. This baby hit the road only a week before we took off…

bornfreeride-002
Darrin was rollin on his Shovel…

bornfreeride-20
Then me on my bike. The Grocery Getter.

bornfreeride-001
After we packed up the bikes it was time to hit the road.

bornfreeride-03
Ok, so as we made are way down 101 south we hit a few snags. Darrin lost all power in his bike and died in Santa Barbara. Without a tow the only option we had left was to sleep in the parking lot were it died… so we did.

bornfreeride-06
The next day we got up, rented a uhaul for Darrin’s bike, then made our way to Long Beach. Just as we got to our exit Ben starts having problems with his bike (#2 down). The second we got to the show he started taking it apart and tried to work it out right there…

bornfreeride-13
We finally made it… The Born Free Motorcycle show.

bornfreeride-15
But, it turns out… we weren’t the only people that decided to go. Weird…

bornfreeride-09
The Born Loser boys built this beauty and raffled it off. Only 1000 raffle tickets were sold at $25. I didnt win.

bornfreeride-08
The Loser Machine guys have a bike too. And its f*ckin sweet.

bornfreeride-16
This was Max’s little corner.

bornfreeride-05
All I know about this bike is Max built it… nice work dude.

img_0172
This machine (aka The Crystal Meth) was Arguably the best bike at the show…

bornfreeride-11
Notice the rear view mirror?

bornfreeride-10
So sick…

bornfreeride-12
Note to self.

bornfreeride-14
Then while you at it… f*ck the world.

img_0168
Um… so bad ass…

img_0181
Joe’s 1947 Knucklehead… I dont know who Joe is, but he has a f*cking nice. ass. bike…

img_0193
The dude sitting on the curb looks like he’s checking his breath or huffing glue. I’m not sure personally.

img_0194
This panhead was my personal favorite at the show.

bornfreeride-21
Wait…. Rick? Is that you??

bornfreeride-19
Sunday morning Mike and I got up at 7am to start back to SF. We were SO CLOSE… but Mike broke down just south of Gilroy, 90 miles south of San Francisco. His muffler came off and I almost ran it over, I kicked it to the side of the road, and we pulled off. He got a tow and I rode the rest of the way solo. But, we all made it back safe one way or another.

Got back from Long Beach last night, got up this morning and headed straight for robs garage (aka the man cave, aka the Lowcard print factory). I’m here every Monday printing all if lowcards single color tees.

The DMV

I found myself contemplating suicide at the Fell street DMV the other day. It smells like the place was mopped with some urine & coffee mixture. Then pack the place with people who look as if they have completely givin up on life, at 8am. That place is pure pain…

Sacto River trip

On this holiday weekend Cruz skate shop rented a van and we took our employees, some team riders, and friends on a little trip to sacto. We posted up on the American River. Old D-bone and his new bride More-T live there and know all the sweet spots. This is their pup passed out on the banks. She parties…

Shirtless dudes are always fun to blog about… But, what’s that in the bottom right corner?

…Its Cruz employee Ol’ Bell Right Hooks! She’s a self-proclaimed “sprinter”. It was lights out pretty quick…

Even Cruz herself ended up on the ground…

The river runs right behind the hanger skatepark. Heres puppy breath, ripping.

Tons of new stuff that I guess was built by Nike for an Omar party. Super fun.

Babes (and rick) behind bars.

Retirement

I recently retired from bartending and my nice boss at thee parkside let me take this bad ass metal sign off the wall as a going away gift. I worked there for just over 5 1/2 years and I feel like I’ve just been let out on parole.

Hot off the press

Sweet drop shadow on the type. Nothing but high design for Lowcard magazine. This is the card’s first video and I’m sure it’s gonna be a classic.

Setting the record straight

bruce-springsteen
Okay, so after long intense deliberation, all of us here at Plaid Again have decided that The River, written and preformed Bruce Springsteen, is the best song ever recorded.

crookedfingers
AND… the cover of The River by Crooked Fingers might be just as good as Bruce’s version, if not better.

bleedamerican
AND… Even tho Jimmy Eat World is basically a boy band for wimpy dudes in thick black frame glasses, the album Bleed American is an amazing record from start to finish… Sorry folks… It just is. Its just as hard to say as it is to hear (me saying that, not the album).

Alice’s Restaurant and Sidecars

Alices is a spot on Skyline drive (just south of SF and East of Halfmoon bay) that is famous for being a motorcycle destination. No matter what way you go the ride there is amazing. Then, when you get there, you’ll see that at least 2 to 3 hundred other bikes had the same idea you had on any given day, and that’s to have lunch at Alices. My buddy Kevin and Shrewgs went out there this last Sunday and looked at some rad (and not so rad) bikes. But these 2 sidecar three wheelers got my stamp of radness. This first one was some sort of Persian bike…

And the second was a Russian built Ural. Ive been told that these bikes are hard to ride and typically run like shit, but they look so fu*king cool. They even have reverse so you can back that shit up! I would love to get pork in one of these one day. Get some goggles on her! So sick..
