Sushi boat & a football foot

I was feeling down so Ol Sandy Cruz took me out for sushi! And she knows I love shit that looks like this. We love to go to this spot on Church Street (@ 15th) that is epic. Not super expensive, and amazingly good.

I still can’t walk but I’m icing my foot 2 sometimes 3 times a day. It’s still the size of a football but I’m on the road to recovery. I think…

The lease is signed! We’ve tried to keep it semi quiet that we have been looking, but it seems that word spread pretty quick. The rumors are true… Cruz Skate Shop is opening a second location in Sacramento! Details of the grand opening will be well blogged about. I want all of you there!

Two locations in less then three years? No big deal. We kinda kill it.

23 years of ankle torture

After I came to terms with the fact that my ankle really could be broken, I went to the hospital. Six Xrays and a lecture later, the ER doctor told me that my ankle isnt broken, but that I have “All sorts of stuff going on in your ankle.” I was informed of old fractures and bone fragments flouting all around in my foot. He was dumbfounded when I looked at him and said.. Trust me dude, I know. Im working with 31 year old ankles that have been going through 23 years of skateboard torture.

The verdict is that I have the worst sprain I’ve ever had and is as bad as a brake. I think I’ll be at least 2 weeks before I’ll even be able to walk. I made my own splint and my roommate Mike found this wheelchair on the street weeks ago. Its being put to use now.

So bummed.

Rolled ankle black and blue. Sometimes frontside smith grinds on vert arnt as easy as they look. Nor is knee sliding. Sometimes you forget how to and it all goes to shit.

I just got the classic, “So you just had a birthday right? Do you feel any different??” Well… so this is what 31 is like. Damit.

Birthday Blunt (to fakes)

For my 31st birthday a hand full of us went to the vert ramp in Berkeley to get vertical. The only two tricks I wanted to land that day were Pivot Fakie and a Blunt Fakie. Terrified, I finally scraped together the guts to huck myself toward the flat bottom and just see what happens. I got lucky and rode them both. It was my birthday present to myself. Bender got the photo and I stole it from his Blog. Thanks dude!

I turned 31 today.

This Ronnie Bertino ever-slick board came into the shop today. The dude said that some kid was skating it and had gotten it from another kid on his street that used to skate. The dude traded him his board for the Bertino right there on the spot. Both of them were hyped. The kid got a way newer skateboard and the dude got this one. Circa 1992?
