Escape from Alcatraz (1962)

alcatraz

Have you ever seen the movie Escape from Alcatraz (1979) with Clint Eastwood? If not, do yourself a favor and watch it. Same director as Dirty Harry, and just as good. The movie is based on a true story of 3 men that escaped from the famous prison in 1962, never to be seen again. Some think that they could have never made it. I am not of this belief.

The FBI’s website reads: On June 12, 1962, the routine early morning bed check turned out to be anything but. Three convicts were not in their cells: John Anglin, his brother Clarence, and Frank Morris. Frank Lee Morris. The master mind behind the escape.

None of the prisoners were ever seen again, nor were their bodies ever found. It’s true the San Francisco bay is gnarly, but these three men were smart, strong, and filled with so much adrenalin that they probably could have done a running jump over the bay. And, to prove their wits, after the men fled the prison they headed for Angel Island, not San Francisco. Everyone would’ve expected them to go to the city.

As my obsession with unsolved crimes grows I’ll post more. Here is a pretty sweet list to check out if you bored. Seriously, how gnarly is this?

  1. Agreed, that it was a very good movie. I love anything with Eastwood, from both an actor’s nd director’s standpoint. He has a new movie coming out soon.
