Have you ever seen the movie Escape from Alcatraz (1979) with Clint Eastwood? If not, do yourself a favor and watch it. Same director as Dirty Harry, and just as good. The movie is based on a true story of 3 men that escaped from the famous prison in 1962, never to be seen again. Some think that they could have never made it. I am not of this belief.
The FBI’s website reads: On June 12, 1962, the routine early morning bed check turned out to be anything but. Three convicts were not in their cells: John Anglin, his brother Clarence, and Frank Morris. In their beds were cleverly built dummy heads made of plaster, flesh-tone paint, and real human hair that apparently fooled the night guards. The prison went into lock down, and an intensive search began. Continue reading here.
Frank Lee Morris. The master mind behind the escape.
None of the prisoners were ever seen again, nor were their bodies ever found. It’s true the San Francisco bay is gnarly, but these three men were smart, strong, and filled with so much adrenalin that they probably could have done a running jump over the bay. And, to prove their wits, after the men fled the prison they headed for Angel Island, not San Francisco. Everyone would’ve expected them to go to the city.
As my obsession with unsolved crimes grows I’ll post more. Here is a pretty sweet list to check out if you bored. Seriously, how gnarly is this?
This is the intersection of Washington & Cherry in San Franicsco. This is where the Zodiac killed Paul Lee Stine, a San Francisco taxi cab driver, on Oct. 11th, 1969. From the windows in the upper right side of this photo is where the teenagers had witnessed the murder, and called the police.
I’m obsessed with true crime. This might be something that is genetic seeing how I know my mother and father are/were also. And the more I learn about the facts surrounding the Zodiac murders from the late 1960’s, I found myself on my bike sitting right where he had been, 40 years ago.
It all started with research online and watching the movie (Zodiac), then, just to reaffirm my lameness I rode over to Green Apple books….
And got the book. I’m already a third of the way through it. Now… for reasons I can’t explain, I want to ride my bike out to Lake Herman Road where Zodiac claimed his first three victims. Its a small stretch of road just east of San Francisco.
The Zodiac was never apprehended. The case remains open to this day.
Worst Dude Ever makes his way to the blog once again! AND… look at how happy he is that he has the TV controller in his hand? I mean, his happiness has nothing to do with us wearing helmets and drinking Bud Lights… thats an everyday event at our place. But to have FULL control of the TV? priceless.
Ok, so I agree that a photo of a skateboarder (doing a trick or not) can help sell almost anything, even a TV. But how the hell does this dude acting like a retard in his livingroom make you want chocolate milk?!?!?
Found this Thrasher with Bryce Kanights posted as cover boy. Skaters Guide to air? Here’s a chalange… Write what YOU think the Skaters Guide to Air is and I’ll post it along with the Real version. I dare you.
Hesh Law hits the streets of San Francisco by way of the Roxie Theatre last Wed. night. The city will never be the same again (not really). Out of the three films we showed, not to dis the other two by any means, but “Tales of the Larb” was a total hit. Premieres are popping up all over the US now. Get to the one nearest you. The video is sick!
Color is “Rootbeer”, size Large, $100. Will ship to any US address. No international, sorry. Email me at plaidagain@gmail.com if you’re interested or have any questions.
Check the loser machine website for more info on the helmet. They call it gold on the site but the box says “rootbeer”.

Steve Teague, Shawn Kelly and friends threw a Skateboard Art Exhibit down in NW, D.C. @ their rad Deli/Billiards Bar BREADSODA. Tons of people came out including, Bobby Worrest, Brian Tucci, Paul McElroy, Keir Johnson, Steve Ball and plenty other DC skate locals, young and old. I donated a bunch of decks, artwork and posters for the event as did the PitCrew guys and everything totally worked out beautifully. Wish all you guys coulda been there… To end the evening (for me at least) was the insanely perfect 100% Vegan Mark Gonzales CAKE that DC Vegan bakery “Sticky Fingers” made for the party. I took home a few pieces in a box… Mmmmm.
